The Russian Blue cat is a medium to large-sized breed with an elegant and graceful body structure. It has long, slim legs and walks as if on tiptoes, giving it a poised and refined appearance.

The head is wedge-shaped with prominent whisker pads and large, wide-set ears. One of its most striking features is its vivid green, almond-shaped eyes, which enhance its mysterious and captivating look.

The Russian Blue has a unique double-layered coat with a dense undercoat. The fur is fine, short, and exceptionally soft to the touch. Although named the "Russian Blue," variations in black and white Russian Blues do occasionally appear. However, the most well-known and sought-after variety has a clear, even blue coat with a distinct silvery sheen.

Temperament

The Russian Blue is known for its sweet temperament, intelligence, and loyalty. This breed forms a strong bond with its owner and often follows them from room to room. Don’t be surprised if your Russian Blue greets you at the front door when you return home!

While they may form a particularly close attachment to one family member, Russian Blues are affectionate towards their entire household and expect the same love in return. It is often said that Russian Blues train their owners rather than the other way around—an observation that has proven true time and again!

These cats are social yet independent. They enjoy companionship but also appreciate alone time and will often seek out a quiet, private space to rest. Unlike some other breeds, Russian Blues are content spending time alone during the day, making them a great choice for working individuals. However, they do require interactive playtime when you are home to keep them mentally and physically stimulated.

Russian Blues can be shy around strangers and may prefer to hide when guests or large gatherings are present. However, once they feel comfortable, they display their affectionate and playful side to those they trust.
