The Ragdoll cat breed is large, powerful, and imposing with distinctive markings. Despite its impressive size, this breed is known for being extremely relaxed and laid-back, which gives it the signature "Ragdoll" impression.
The broad head has a flat top and is wide between the ears. The deep blue eyes are large and striking. Its body is long and muscular with a broad chest, short neck, and sturdy legs. The paws are large, round, and tufted, while the tail is long and bushy.
The Ragdoll cat's coat is silky and dense, ranging from medium to long in length. In adult cats, there should be a visible ruff around the neck and "knickerbockers" on the hind legs. The Ragdoll breed has three different coat patterns, each available in four colors. Additionally, there is a mitted Ragdoll variety, which has additional white markings.
The Ragdoll’s soft, silky coat can vary in length from semi-long to long.
Unlike many other cats, Ragdolls are known for their unique trait of going limp when held, completely relaxing in the arms of their owner—even when cradled on their back. They are affectionate and people-oriented, often greeting their owners at the door, following them around the house, and snuggling in laps or beds whenever possible.
While Ragdolls are described as docile, they are far from inactive. They enjoy playing with toys and engaging in family activities. With positive reinforcement through praise and treats, Ragdolls quickly learn tricks and good behaviors, such as using a scratching post.
These cats have a soft, sweet voice and will gently remind you when it’s mealtime or when they crave attention, though they are not excessively vocal. Their polite nature makes them easy to live with. Unlike some other breeds, Ragdolls prefer to stay on the same level as their people rather than seeking out the highest perch in the room.
